Open Barbers is a hair salon for any hair length welcoming people of all genders and sexualities. Founded in 2011, Open Barbers is a Community Interest Company led by Greygory and Felix. The project works with freelance hairdressers Richard, Rachael and Mable to offer a range of services for all hair types.
The project is built on an ethos of affordability and accessibility, aiming to create a non-judgemental environment where clients are in control of their experience and determine their appearance and identity on their own terms. Open Barbers have a full time shop located in Hoxton, East London as well as participating in events/running pop-ups. Past events include Pop-Up salons with V&A, Nottingham Contemporary, Duckie, Latitude Festival, Buzzcut Festival, Fringe! Queer Film and Arts Fest, Warwick, Cambridge and Oxford Universities and Secession, Vienna. The team at Open Barbers all have a background in performing and visual arts and all live and work in London, UK.
Cut to the Chase
As part of Cut to the Chase, Open Barbers will be cutting hair as part of Emma Frankland’s immersive artwork on 25th February at Tonybee Studios, as well as hosting a discussion on Gender and barbering with Amy Pennington.
Note: For the Open Barber/Emma Frankland experience, please come to the reception on the day and sign up for the experience. This activity is outside of the All Day Ticket and we will run a Pay What You Can initiative in cash on the day.
